Most pine tar soaps use 10–20% pine tar. Ours is 30% - real, handmade Norwegian pine tar, which is expensive, hard to source, and famously difficult to work with in both cold- and hot-process soapmaking.

I do it anyway, because the result is worth it.

30% Norwegian Pine Tar

It smells like history.

Pine tar has been made and used for centuries, long before it found its way into soap.

By the Viking Age, resinous pine wood and roots were slowly heated with limited oxygen to draw out the thick, dark tar. Later it became indispensable for protecting wooden ships, ropes, and rigging.

This bar carries that rugged tradition forward with an unusually high concentration of real Norwegian pine tar.

I initially bought soap from J.D. Bauer at the La Jolla Farmers Market and liked all my purchases so I ordered some new items online. The shampoo bar is great - my first time to use one and I was surprised how much it lathers and leaves my hair soft even without conditioner. The pine tar soap has not helped my itchy skin as I'd hoped and the smell is hard to get used to, as advertised, but it is a unique experience and not a bad one. The plumeria balm worked very well to hydrate and smells very nice. I haven't tried the oatmeal and raspberry yet but am looking forward to it. I work in a beauty Supply store for 20 years I have seen different types of soap and order some on line what so called quality soap from different vendors, but by far this is the best that I ever bought. Best pine tar soap ever. Expensive but you get what you pay for, and there was no shipping cost. A solid five stars.
