THE STORY BEHIND J.D. BAUER BOTANICALS
History,botanicals, and apersonal beginning.
J.D. Bauer Botanicals began with a father trying to find a simpler approach for his son, then grew into years of research, old-world inspiration, and small-batch soapmaking.
HOW THE JOURNEY BEGAN
I began thisjourney for mychild.
I watched my son suffer with eczema for years. Steroid shots, creams, strange diets. I tried everything. I was heartbroken.
My background is in education. I taught U.S. History, World History, Government, and Economics. One week, while teaching the Civil War, I had a lightbulb moment. I looked at the ingredients in my son's commercial soap and started thinking about how much simpler soapmaking had been in earlier periods.
I made an old-fashioned soap for my son. That experience sent me down the rabbit hole. I began using my knowledge of history to track down ancient recipes and old-world methods.
My interests in desert survival and ethnobotany, including the traditional use of native plants, became part of that research. I started bringing botanical ingredients into my formulas. Friends and family responded enthusiastically, and eventually I decided to make this my new journey.
