THE STORY

A cleaner look at Viking Age grooming

The popular image of Vikings as perpetually filthy misses an important part of the historical record. Grooming tools such as combs and razors are common archaeological finds, and the National Museum of Denmark's overview of Viking hygiene notes combs, grooming tools, and regular bathing in historical accounts. More old-world and botanical product stories are collected in Behind the Botanicals.

Viking Ice takes that cleaner side of Norse life as its inspiration, then pushes the sensory experience hard with peppermint, wintergreen and birch, and sea salt.

Like jumping in a fjord. With soap.

THE FORMULA

Why the bar feels so cold

Peppermint and wintergreen drive the cooling character, while the birch note keeps the fragrance from reading as simple mint. For a brighter maritime take on mint and salt, see Blimey That's Limey's citrus-heavy formula.

Sea salt adds texture and reinforces the bracing, no-nonsense feel of the bar.
