Oud Wood

$9.00

Those of you that have smelled the rich woody scent of Oud Wood, understand why it’s scent is so sought after. Oud wood has at least 3000 years of history, and its use began in China, Japan, India and the Middle East. At that time, only kings, emperors and the rich could benefit from it and appreciate its virtues due to its rarity and expense.

Oud is produced when a tree basically rots in exactly the right way to make one of the finest aromas used since ancient times. To be exact, Aqualaria trees that are generally found in South-East Asia need to be infected by a fungi called Phialaphora Parasitica. This fungi rots the core of the tree trunk in order to form Agarwood, which is the part of the tree that can be transformed into Oud.

Our wood is very hard to find due to the fact that every species of this tree (in the wild) is now considered critically endangered! It takes years for the infection process to infect enough of the tree, but also, in nature, apparently only 2% of these trees get infected in this way. We only use sustainable and ethical sources for out our wood that are farmed and not poached from the wilderness.

Oud Wood Soap also contains bergamot. Bergamot is a citrus fruit that primarily grows in southern Italy. It has a tangy citrusy scent. The final ingredient is vetiver. It rounds out the woody aroma of this fantastic soap.
